The
church is the surviving chapel of the
London palace of the Bishops of Ely, and
dates from the 13th. Century. It was the
first pre-reformation church restored to
Catholic hands, being bought by the
Rosminians in 1874, and restored by Fr.
Lockhart, an Oxford convert and friend
of John Henry Newman.
The
"Parish" consists of a handful of
parishoners, but the church is very much
used, especially at lunch-time during
the working week, when a large
congregation attends the 1 p.m. mass. It
is especially busy on feast-days.
